I finally took the plunge and ordered the new Hurom juicer. I had never upgraded from my old Champion from the 1980’s, since all the other juicers on the market seemed to either be a real hassle to use and/or clean, or didn’t offer a much better quality juice than I could make with my Champion. But it seemed that the new Hurom and the Omega Vert juicer were able to offer both ease of use and cleaning, as well as preserve lots more of the goodness of the juice.

In fact I didn’t really use my Champion for juice anymore, since I don’t juice carrots very much, and that’s what it was best at. I mostly pulled it out for making frozen banana ice cream, and I’m still keeping it for that since these new juicers can’t do that kind of thing. I like to make blended, mostly green juice now, and the juice would get warm from the Champion. I’m a raw fooder now, and I definitely don’t want to cook my juice!

Well, I totally love my new Hurom. It’s so easy to use and clean, and the juice tastes so fresh and yummy. I love the way the celery stalks and romaine leaves are just pulled into the juicer – I barely have to use any force at all. And the juice is so delicious – sometimes I’ll drink two or more quarts a day!

So far my only complaint is that the juicer gets a little clogged with celery strings and leafy fiber after making the first quart of juice, so it’s hard to make more than that unless I stop and clean out the filter at that point. But other than that, it’s worked wonderfully. I find it really easy to clean – the brush works perfectly for cleaning the filter. It’s also really easy to assemble and take apart afterwards, and I haven’t had a single problem with any of the parts. The whole process of cleaning my veggies, juicing, drinking and cleaning up takes me under a half hour. I definitely alternate items – a leaf of romaine, a stalk of celery, a frond of fennel, a leaf of kale, a slice of apple, etc, and I feel like this is a good practice in general for juicing.

The reason I chose the Hurom vs the Omega Vert is that I found a gently used one for $300. It is nice to have the handle since I tend to keep it on the counter and it’s pretty heavy, and that makes it easy to move around when it’s time to juice. I contacted the customer service guy in LA to ask a question about the warranty, and he emailed me right back and sent along lots of helpful hints about using it, so his prompt response bodes well if I do have any problems with it down the line. I definitely recommend these new juicers if you like to make fresh fruit and veggie juice!
